Ralph Waite rejoined the cast in his recurring role as Jackson Gibbs. In this episode he is reunited with his son, who is out on a case involving the shooting of a Marine. For once Gibbs leaves the scene of the crime to go and 'bail' his father out of jail. His father is on a mission of his own to see a friend to whom he owes his life.
Jackson convinces Gibbs to take him to see his 'friend' one last time before his friend dies to settle a debt.
This leave Tony and Tim alone in the squadroom dealing with the case of the murdered Marine who is seems was working with the DCS. "So who takes point?"
I liked this episode there were some heartwarming moments between Jackson and Gibbs. The underlying father son tension was there. Gibbs struggling with the fact that his father is getting on in years and even at one point thinking he was possibly going senile and having a heart to heart with Ducky on how to handle it.
This episode also saw Tony and Tim trying to both take point on the investigation. At one point Tony leaving Tim with the legwork and leading to Tim 'accidently' telling Gibbs, "I've done the work you were too good for Boss!" The look on his face after this line was priceless.
Surprisingly Tim was given point by Gibbs at that point. I say surprisingly since as Tony is SFA I would have assumed that he would automatically be given point.
However personally, since Ziva left I do feel Tony has not been in the right head space and feel that this may be dealt with in a future episode.
All in all I actually enjoyed this episode a lot. I did feel the first few episodes in this series were just them trying to get back into the swing of things after the unexpected departure of Cote De Pablo from the series. I did feel this was a better episode than the last few.
